SPORTS STAR AND POLITICIANS AGREE THAT MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE TO ENCOURAGE YOUNG PEOPLE INTO SPORT
World champion swimmer and members of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee speak at sports breakfast organised by Luther Pendragon.
World swimming champion and five time Olympian Mark Foster today joined former Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe, MP and Culture, Media and Sport Committee member Therese Coffey, MP at a sports briefing breakfast to discuss, ‘Elite vs. grassroots: have we got the balance right?’.
Hosted by the Mirror’s chief sports writer, Oliver Holt, discussion centred around the need for more to be done to encourage grassroots sport to thrive. All agreed that there were lots of very good programmes undertaken by sports clubs and local groups but the rise in childhood obesity and leisure distractions has meant that children are not taking enough exercise.
The briefing took place at the Savile Club and was attended by Luther’s clients and guests.
